Why do blue states have longer life expectancies then red states?

When I was in Mississippi, I saw deep fried pickles. Rural Americans tend to eat more traditional, fat-laden foods. Add in the higher smoking rates (Utah excepted), Red State citizens tend to have unhealthier lifestyles. Blue State urbanites with their low fat foods and fitness regimes are mocked in Red States. Go to a big city in a Red State and look at the obituary section. Guns and heart attacks are the primary reason for deaths.
