Runescape question about stats.?

Hey. I was at the falador bar in runescape and i noticed weird things. Whenever I drink asgarnian ale, my strength star goes up, when i drink wizards mind bomb my magic goes up, and whenever I drink the dwarven stout my mining and smithing levels go up. Is this normal?
