Non carbon based life forms ?

When we discuss life on nother planets we usually go down the track of looking for plantes, such as the goldilocks planet that sustain life in the form we know it. Evoultion tells us (summarily the that organisms will adapt to there environment. Applying this principle would it not be possible for life forms on another planet to adapt to a non-carbon lofe form. Just a little bit of discussion.
