Why does my house smell of smoke when burning wood in my new fireplace?

Ive just had my blocked up lounge fireplace reopened, chimney swept and ready to go but when we burn wood in the grate the house smells of smoke downstairs. I cant actually see any smoke in the rooms so why does it smell so much? I expected a little wood burning aroma but this seems a little too much! Please can anyone advise??
