He did it because you let him do it! Once you found out he had the girlfriend of over a year, you never should have taken him back---once a cheater, always a cheater. As for if he ever loved you, only HE knows the true answer, but from the story you told, I seriously doubt he did. If he REALLY loved you, he wouldn't have ed you around like that and you wouldn't be so easy to "cut out of his life". Hopefully you'll move on & CUT HIM OUT OF YOUR LIFE, regardless if he comes back or not.
